The Somali National Army (SNA) backed by Southwest state Dervish forces yesterday conducted operations which were aimed to bolster security in the settlements that are under Barawe district in Lower Shabelle province.
The Somali troops carried out the operation in Harshaanley and Buur-Olow settlements that are under the port city of Barawe.
The Somali troops moved from their military barracks and moved into these settlements without encountering any resistance from the militant group of Al-shabab.
The militant group of Al-Shabab sometimes sneak into these settlements, collect sakawat from the local residents, and warn against them that they must not work with the Somali National Army (SNA) and the African troops stationed in the port city of Barawe.
The Somali National Army (SNA) and Dervish forces did not have a military base in these settlements but conduct operations on monthly basis.
The operation comes at a time when the militant group of Al-Shabab carried out landmine blast attack in the airport in Barawe town which claimed the lives of two people and wounded seven others.
The militant group of Al-shabab said that its fighters targeted a vehicle where Somali soldiers were on board and killed two soldiers and wounded others.
It is unbelievable how it became possible for the militant group of Al-shabab to conduct the attack in the airport while African peace keeping troops are in charge of the security.
