The famous football star who used to play for Arsenal and other European clubs, Nwanku Kanu yesterday arrived in Hargeisa, Somaliland capital.
The Nigerian football star was greeted upon arrival at Egal Int’l Airport by officials of the ministry of youth and sports.
Once Kanu arrived at Egal Airport, he made an encouraging speech to Somaliland youth and sports urging them to work hard.
He said: “I am surprised to see such large number of youth in Somaliland. This shows that this nation is progressing. The reason why you have come here is that I am a champion. You are better than me if you work hard.”
The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Yusuf Tadhase said that Somaliland has broaden its int’l relations particularly in sports. Kanu’s visit will lead that Somaliland to receive int’l support which is aimed to develop the sports.
He said: “The importance of receiving Kanu and his delegation is to observe what is going on in Somaliland in order to establish ties with major organizations, and to get support for the sports. This is part of what we have changed in terms of having relations with world agencies.”
Kanu is a well-known football star in the world. He was born in Owerri in Nigeria on August 1, 1976. He became famous playing for clubs in Europe.
