The President of Kenya, William Ruto, announced yesterday that his government is committed to consolidate the diplomatic and trade cooperation with Somalia, that is based on trade development and tightening security in the region. William Ruto held a phone talks with his Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud yesterday. The two leaders had in depth discussions on issues that have paramount importance to both countries. The leaders agreed that the two countries intensify the ongoing operations which are aimed at eliminating terrorist groups and threats to the security in the region.
They reiterated to establish a way to share intelligence gathering and to expedite the cooperation between the armed forces in order to prevent security threats which will have negative repercussions to the region and the world. Kenyan President underscored the commitment of his government to work with Somalia in a bid to strengthen peace and stability, while Hassan Sheikh Mohamud showed the importance that the two countries have close ties which is aimed at enhancing the bilateral cooperation in the areas of security and economy.
The two leaders also discussed trade development and facilitate trade movement between the two countries. They agreed to create more opportunities and lift barriers on the trade in border areas between Kenya and Somalia. William Ruto pointed out that trade cooperation between the two countries will pave the way for economic growth which is mutual interest of the people of Kenya and Somalia.
