Somaliand Police yesterday arrested in Berbera an independent and social media activist, Abdimalik Muse Oldon.
Somaliland gov’t has not clearly cited the reason for his detention.
Abdimalik escaped on 22 March, 2025 from Burao after he received information indicating that Somaliland police will detain him.
He stayed in Bohol for a couple of days. His family and Somaliland community requested to return back to Burao and told him that he will not be arrested.
Coldon’s brother said: ” There is no problem. You can constructively criticize the Somaliland gov’t. Abdirahman Irro’s office is open for you. If you have grievances to address, you can meet him. Irro is a good man who listens the people.”
Subsequently, Abdimalik Muse Oldon returned to Burao, but he was arrested while travelling from Burao to Berbera.
The main reason for his arrest is the fact that he gave a comment on a program that Aljazeera Arabic aired which was about Somaliland accepting the relocation of Palestinians from Gaza.
Oldon wrote in the comment: ” I hail from Somalia. The minister does not represent us. He represents a mercenary government. Palestinians are our brothers. The people in Gaza will remain in their land in patience and resilience.”
Once Oldon was detained during Mus Bihi’s presidency, Wadani party, the current ruling party strongly condemned his arrest and said that it was illegal and against the constitution of the country.
Wadani even said that it was against the freedom of expression.
