Reports confirm that heavy casualties were inflicted on Alshabab militant groups following airstrikes conducted by U.S. Africa Command with the support of Somalia Federal Gov’t. The airstrike targeted senior Alshabab leaders and fighters who were stationed in districts in Middle Shabelle region. The airstrike targeted four districts in Middle Shabelle region including Hawaay, Sablaale, Xaramka, and Arbacoow districts.
In Hawaay, Alshabab operatives were making improvised explosive devices that were later intended to be transported to the capital Mogadishu. SNA Commanders confirm to the local media that at least 30 senior Alshabab leaders and fighters killed during the airstrike. Foreign Al shabab fighters who were planning to take part attacks that the group launches against Somali troops killed in Sablaale.
The situation remains tense in the districts which the airstrike targeted. Middle Shabelle region is believed to be the breeding ground of Alshabab cells in Somalia. Somali troops intensified its operations with the support of local forces to flush out ALshabab from its presence in Middle Shabelle region.
