Somaliland’s Ambassador to Israel, Mohamed Omar Haji Mohamoud, addressed the meeting held by the leaders of Somalia, Eritrea, Egypt, and Sudan—which was reportedly aimed at opposing Somaliland’s recognition—stating that political gatherings lack the authority to determine Somaliland’s future.

Commenting on the meeting, Mohamed Haji remarked that while such political summits might generate media headlines, they have no power to block Somaliland’s future or to erase its history, sovereignty, or the will of its people.

The Ambassador stated that the meeting not only threatens Somaliland’s interests but also undermines the strategic interests of key nations in the region and Somaliland’s neighbors.

He also criticized the Federal Government of Somalia, describing it as a failed administration and asserting that it is being used as a proxy to oppose Somaliland and its vital allies in the region and across the globe. “Using the failed administration in Mogadishu as a proxy force to oppose Somaliland and its other key allies in the region and beyond will never work,” said Mohamed Haji in his commentary.

This statement comes amidst ongoing diplomatic debates and activities regarding Somaliland’s recognition, with both proponents and opponents seeking to strengthen their political positions at regional and international levels.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Somalia, Eritrea, Sudan, and Egypt—who recently met in Egypt—condemned Somaliland’s recognition of Israel, stating that it undermines Somalia’s sovereignty.
