The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Somaliland, Mr. Abdullahi Jama Osman (Geeljire), accompanied by the Governor of Awdal Region, Mr. Hassan Dahir (Hassan Iid), launched a major environmental awareness campaign in the Awdal region today.
This awareness initiative, which involves the Environmental Protection Force, will be implemented across all regions of Somaliland to educate the public on the importance of preserving the environment and the country’s natural resources.
The campaign specifically focuses on preventing deforestation, charcoal production, and other activities harmful to the environment, while raising public awareness about the community’s role in protecting natural resources.
Additionally, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change laid the foundation stone for a large protected area (reserve) in the Qolqol locality, a project that is part of the Ministry’s plans to safeguard the environment, vegetation, and rangelands.
The reserve is intended to bolster efforts to conserve natural resources and protect the environment, as awareness-raising and protection measures are extended to various regions across Somaliland.
