Somaliland Police Spokesperson, Senior Colonel Abdi-Aziz Sheikh Ismail, stated that the Environmental and Wildlife Protection Force will take legal action against anyone who violates Somaliland’s environment and wildlife.
The spokesperson made these remarks during an awareness campaign on environmental and wildlife protection, noting that anyone who harms the environment will be treated as a suspect and referred to legal authorities.
“The Environmental and Wildlife Protection Force is mandated to take legal action against anyone who violates the environment and wildlife. Anyone who commits such a violation becomes a suspect against the nation and will be brought before legal authorities,” the spokesperson said.
Senior Colonel Abdi-Aziz also mentioned that surveillance cameras have been installed on many trees within the forests to monitor the environment and identify individuals who burn trees or harm the environment and wildlife.
He noted that the cameras are capable of recording the perpetrator, even if that person attempts to damage the very tree to which the camera is attached. “Cameras are mounted on 80 percent of the trees in the area—and in the forests you see—recording anyone who causes harm to the environment or wildlife,” said the Spokesperson for the Somaliland Police Force.
Finally, the Spokesperson urged the public to refrain from any actions that harm the environment or wildlife, noting that anyone who engages in such acts will face legal action.
