Puntland regional president, Said Abdilahi Deni, received Sunday UN Special Representative to Somalia, James Swan, leading a high level delegation. The high level meeting was held in the residence of the president in Bosaso. During the meeting, the UN envoy lauded the ongoing anti-terrorism operations which are aimed at flushing out ISIS remnants from Puntland territory. He also praised the efforts undertaken by Puntland government when it comes to eliminating Daesh terrorists from Puntland. Other issues that were high on the agenda of the talks include the overall security, UN projects and humanitarian aid. Puntland cabinet ministers were also intendance during the high level discussions between James Swan and Puntland regional leader.
Puntland security forces conduct anti-terrorism operations in Al-Miskaad mountan range in Bari region which were aimed at driving out Deash remnants from the region. According to Puntland officials, the operation has been successful as far as the clashes between Puntland security forces and ISIS fighters are concerned. Airstrikes were carried out by U.S. and UAE targeting ISIS hideouts. Puntland security forces took over ISIS bases in Al-Miskaad mountain range in Bari region. The security forces confiscated weapons, ammunitions, foodstuffs that ISIS fighters fled during the clashes. One of the military bases that Puntland security forces took control was training camp for the ISIS terrorists.
