The minister of defense of Somalia’s Federal Gov’t Mr. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, speaking to state-run television, has confirmed that 150 Al-Shabab militant fighters including senior leaders were killed in a coordinated airstrikes.
The minister has said that heavy casualties were inflicted on Al-Shabab fighters stationed in El-Ba’ad, Labo-Garas, Jambaluul, El-Garas and Damasha Shabelow districts in Middle Shabelle region.
The minister further confirmed that all Al-Shabab elements stationed in these areas were eliminated.
He said that the Somali Federal Gov’t in conjunction with Int’l Partners carried out airstrikes targeting Al-Shabab hideouts for the past 48 hours.
Once again, the defense minister has sent stern warning to the Somali populace to stay away from areas that are under the control of Al-Shabab in order to minimize civilian harm.
The Minister revealed that the gallant Somali troops backed by local clan forces intensified ground assaults against Al-Shabab militant group.
The operations were aimed at flushing out Al-Shabab remnants from Somalia.
