The European Union which was one of the longstanding financiers of the Peace Keeping Mission in Somalia has shown the need to fairly share the responsibility of the funds and the technicality of the peace keeping mission in Somalia.
Officials from the European Union based in Brussels say that other countries that are influential the likes of the Gulf Countries, U.S., China, and the power countries in Africa must now begin to pay the funds if the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia remain in place.
The European Union has shown efforts to step up the finances and that the future of Somalia should not be banking on the generosity of the European Union.
The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia is entering a new stage and the role of the Peace Keeping troops changed which they offer now to technical support and the strengthening of government institutions.
The meeting that will take place in Kampala will change the peace keeping mission in Somalia to a new term dubbed “Simple Stabilization”, which focuses on providing trainings, consulting and guidance, instead of continuing direct fighting.
The outcome of the meeting in Kampala will decide the agenda that the African leaders will discuss which will take place in May.
During the meeting, issues will be accomplished regarding the reform of the army, the process of financing and Somalia’s roadmap regarding the ATMISS Mission in Somalia.
