The president of the republic of Somaliland, H.E Musa Bihi Abdi, has held a high level meeting with a seven-member national election commission (NEC) team headed by chief election commissioner, Honorable, Abdirashid Riyo-raac, The meeting held at the presidency on Saturday was to assess the preparedness of the state to hold local council and parliament polls to be held on May 31st, 2021. NEC briefed the Head of the State on preparations that the country is gearing up to hold local council and parliament polls which are at crucial juncture. NEC members have assured the president that things are smoothly taking place as previously planned; furthermore, they promised that the elections will be held at the agreed time. Budget earmarked for the elections were also part of the discussion as the two sides have also pointed out the funds so far spent in order to smoothly prepare for the polls. President Bihi congratulated on NEC team of doing an excellent job, and reiterated that election must be held at the agreed time. Bihi pledged that the vested interest of the state as well as the national security both are in the shoulders of the government. He urged the team to diligently work, and pave the way for the country to have peaceful and democratic polls.
