Somalia: Govt begins aerial spraying exercise in Nugal region

Somalia has launched aerial spraying exercise to eliminate desert locusts in Nugal province of Puntland state on Tuesday. Somalia will use newly acquired helicopters from FAO for the drive against the locust invasion. The aerial spraying exercise will last for a period of ten days. Somalia will later conduct the aerial spraying drive in Galmudug to fight of the desert locust invasion which are destroying large vegetation in Somalia. The project to fight off locust in Somalia is funded by FAO in conjunction with USAID. Somalia’s government said that the exercise will be later conducted in Somaliland, Hirshabelle and Southwest states. Somaliland has rejected Somalia’s claims of carrying out aerial spray in her territory, and cited that it is not part of the Federal member states.
