Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday announced a ban on the use of battle wagons and heavy weapons in the capital Mogadishu amid worsening insecurity.
Mohamud said politicians and businesspeople will not be allowed to drive battle wagons and carry weapons in the streets of the city, adding that security forces are authorized to search them at checkpoints as part of efforts to stabilize the war-torn city.
Somali President also said the ban includes the trade of military vehicles, uniforms and weapons. Authorities will issue new decrees about the matter, he added.
