Finnish ambassador to Somalia visits EUCUP, Somalia

The new Ambassador of Finland to Somalia, Mr. Erik Lundberg, visited EUCAP Somalia’s Headquarters in Mogadishu on 5 November. He met with the Head of Mission (HoM), Maria-Cristina Stepanescu, Deputy Head of Mission/Chief of Staff Keith Murray and two senior members of the Finnish contingent serving in the Mission, Strategic Maritime Advisor Jukka Holmström and Senior Press and Public Information Officer Sari Haukka.

The HoM and the Ambassador discussed about the activities of EUCAP Somalia, and the HoM introduced some key elements of the revised operational plan of the Mission and the activities to be conducted in the near future.

Ambassador Lundberg was accompanied by First Secretary at Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Somalia team leader, Mr. Toni Sandell.

The HoM thanked Finland for its contribution to the Mission and Somalia: at the moment 12 Finnish experts are serving in the Mission to contribute to the establishment and capacity building of maritime civilian law enforcement capability in Somalia, including Somaliland.

Later that day, Mr. Lundberg presented his credentials to the President of Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo.
