Burkina Faso, Somalia have engaged in discussions regarding their efforts to combat terrorism.

The Minister of Internal Security of the Somali Federal Government, General Abdillahi Sheikh Ismail, also known as Fartag, met with Burkina Faso President, Captain Ibrahim Traore, on Thursday to discuss expanding international cooperation in the area of security. The meeting, which took place in Ouagadougou, was part of the minister’s official working visit to Burkina Faso. During the meeting, he delivered a message from Somali President, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to his counterpart in Burkina Faso. According to an official statement, the two sides focused on building robust security cooperation, intensifying the fight against terrorist groups, providing training for security forces, and exchanging intelligence reports. The Minister of Internal Security emphasized that both Burkina Faso and Somalia face similar security challenges, including the threat of extremist groups and indirect wars. He also stressed the importance of establishing consistent and close cooperation between the two countries. This meeting is part of the Somali Federal Government’s strategic goals to strengthen international security cooperation, particularly with countries in the Sahel region of Africa that also face attacks from armed groups.
