At least 20 people have been killed in deadly clan skirmishes between two brotherly clans in the Dooxa Laashimo area, which falls under the authority of the Erigavo district in the Sanaag region. According to sources from the area, the inter-clan fighting, which erupted yesterday, was sparked by a dispute over pasture land. The fighting resulted in property destruction and loss of life, lasting for 24 hours. No authority has intervened to end the skirmishes between the two brotherly Warsangeli clans, who have a history of conflict in the Sanaag province. Sources report that the fighting ceased on its own on Thursday morning. Efforts are currently underway, led by elders from the Puntland region, to bring peace between the two warring sides. Some of these elders are on their way to the area where the inter-clan skirmishes occurred to strengthen the peace efforts. The majority of those killed in the fighting were from the two brotherly clans and were buried in a mass grave in the area where the clashes took place. Reports also indicate that more than 30 people were injured and taken to Erigavo for medical treatment. The area is geographically part of Somaliland, but there is an ongoing dispute over its territory with the Puntland authority. On Thursday, the Minister of Interior of Somaliland, Mr. Abdalle Sandheere, spoke about the inter-clan fighting in the Sanaag region, urging the warring sides to stop the bloodshed and lay down their arms. He called for an end to the violence and for both sides to accept peace.
