Somaliland President orders the release of 150 people arrested in connection of the protests held in Buroa

Somaliland President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro on Friday has authorized an order to release the protesters who were arrested in Buroa yesterday. He also ordered to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The President has directly spoken to the community in Buroa and sent sincere condolences to the families who lost two young loved ones in the unrest. He revealed that false news was disseminated within the public which caused the unrest that transpired in Buroa.

He said: “I tell Somaliland populace, particularly local residents in Buroa, that people who took to the streets were given false information which was baseless. We learn from now on that we should stay away from lies and news that is not trustworthy.”

He went on to say that a delegation consisting of ministers and senior officers were dispatched to Buroa last night to assess the situation. The Head of State has ordered to launch a full investigation regarding those who instigated the demonstrations, and those who mobilized the community that were responsible for staging the protests.

He has ordered the release of 150 people who were apprehended by security forces after they staged the demonstrations. He implemented an agreement reached between security officials in Togder province and intellectuals from Buroa.

Two people die while 40 others were wounded in the protests after false news was widely circulated in the social media saying that Somaliland gov’t will release prisoners captured in Lasanod fighting without condition.
