A press statement on Thursday issued by Somali Federal Gov’t has given full details of the fierce fighting that occurred in between Daynuunay settlement and Baidoa.
The statement further said that the Somali troops inflicted heavy casualties on Al-Shabab militants.
Al-Shabab fighters were regrouping in Burjeed settlement which lies 15 km from Baidoa, the administrative capital of Southwest state.
The Somali Federal Gov’t has confirmed in the press release that 35 Al-Shabab militants were killed including a senior Al-shabab leader who is a foreign national.
The statement went on to say that 60 Al-Shabab fighters were wounded.
The Somali gov’t further stated that its troops caught 18 Al-Shabab corpses while the insurgents fled carrying the wounded fighters.
The Somali Federal Gov’t has further confirmed that operations are still underway to thwart Al-shabab raids.
On the other hand, the corpses of Al-Shabab fighters killed in the fighting in Daynuunay were taken to Baidoa and were displayed in Afar Irdoodka Park where hundreds of local residents have come out to see the dead bodies.
The President, Laftagareen and officers of the Somali army stationed in Southwest State have lauded the victory that the Somali National Army (SNA) reached concerning the fighting that erupted in the outskirts of Baidoa where Somali troops engaged a fighting with Al-Shabab militants.
