According to security sources, ISIS fighters have increased their attacks on Puntland security forces in the Bari region. The group launched an attack on Dhaadaar, but were driven out by Puntland security forces as part of the second phase of Al-Miskaad operations On February 25, 2025. The purpose of the attack was reportedly to destroy a new water well implemented by Puntland authorities, but the security forces were able to thwart their plans. However, three security forces were injured in the process. This attack came shortly after U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) carried out airstrikes in the Bari region, targeting ISIS members who were planning ambush attacks. In a separate incident, ISIS fighters ambushed a vehicle transporting injured soldiers in Dhaadaar. While help was provided to the security forces, there is a lack of communication in the area and further information was not received. Sadly, one soldier named Ayaanle Tilikh, who was previously injured in the battle of Bakhtiweyne, was confirmed dead. The vehicle carrying Puntland security forces was also destroyed in the ambush. These events occurred amidst complaints about the delay of Puntland operations in the Al-Miskaad mountains. Reports suggest that there are constraints in terms of medicine, fuel, and logistics that have hindered the operations. In response to these incidents, Puntland regional President, Mr. Saed Abdillahi Deni, has appointed a new Commander, Mohamud Shire Mohamed, to lead the operations in Al-Miskaad and intensify the fight against ISIS.
