on 15th April, 2025, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in conjunction with Somali Federal Gov’t conducted an airstrike in South of Somalia’s territorial waters in order to destroy stateless vessel carrying modern weapons and a small boat which was providing assistance to the vessel.
The vessel carrying the weapons was bound for Al-Shabab militants and posed a threat to the national security of Somalia and those of the world friends that support the peace building efforts.
AFRICOM initial assessment indicate that all terrorist groups on board on the two vessels were killed.
The assessment further stated that there were no civilian casualties as far as the airstrike is concerned.
It was suspected that the vessels were carrying ammunitions and military equipment which were bound for the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab.
