The National Consultative Conference (NCC) that the Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has invited the regional leaders, has officially commenced in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital on Tuesday.
The conference which is currently underway in Villa Somalia saw the attendance of regional as well as Federal leaders. They will discuss pressing issues during the high level meeting.
The incumbent Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is presiding over the conference and the regional leaders from Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Southwest, the head of Lasanod authority, and Banadir regional administration are currently in attendance of the meeting.
The security of the country and the upcoming elections in 2026 will be high on the agenda of the meeting. It is expected that leaders will also discuss the ongoing war with Al-Shabab which has intensified recently. The regional and Federal leaders will also discuss the current state of the country.
Puntland President, Saed Abdilahi Deni and Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe are not attending the National Consultative Conference (NCC) due to fallout with the Somali Federal Gov’t.
Opposition groups have strongly opposed the plan of Villa Somalia which intends to hold one man one vote in the country while voter registration is currently underway in Banadir region.
Representatives from the int’l community who are based in Mogadishu are directing their efforts to find a lasting resolution to the political dispute pertaining to the type of elections that will be held in the country.
