Ministry of Defense and top commanders brief House of Representatives in unprecedented meet



Saturday’s session of the House of Representatives, chaired by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed, was attended by the Ministry of Defense and National Army leaders, including Minister of Defense, Hon. Abdiqani Mohamud Aateye, accompanied by officials from the Ministry and the National Army, including the Commander of the Armed Forces, Major General Nuh Ismail Tani, the Head of the National Army Court, Colonel Suleiman, Prosecutor of the Court Martial Middle Shield Ali, and Director-General of the Ministry of Defense, Mr. Mohamed Abdilahi Abdirahman and officials from the national army met with members of the House of Representatives.

The meeting came at the request of the House of Representatives to the leaders of the Ministry of Defense and the various officials presented reports at yesterday’s meeting.

Minister of Defense Hon. Abdiqani speaking to the members of the House of Representatives said that the Ministry of Defense, which is of great importance to the nation of Somaliland, consists of three departments: the National Army, the Judiciary, and the Prosecution and the Directorate. He said everything department would give brief to the house.


The Commander of the National Army, Major General Nuh Ismail, in his remarks, explained briefly the duties of the National Army.

The Prosecutor of the Court of Martial Middle Shield Ali and the Director-General of the Ministry also made briefings at yesterday’s meeting.

In conclusion, the lawmakers asked various questions to the heads of the Ministry of Defense, the Commander of the National Army, and the Prosecutor, whereby they gave detailed answers.

Yesterday’s meeting will be the first time in the history of the Somaliland Parliament that the speaker of the national army will address the nation.
