Ethiopian PM Arrives in Mogadishu

Mogadishu- Ethiopian PM, Abiy Ahmed on Thursday morning, arrived in Mogadishu in Somalia’s capital, leading a high level delegation. Incumbent Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received the Ethiopian PM, Abiy Ahmed upon arrival At Adden Adde Airport. Ethiopian PM received a guard of honor upon arrival at the airport.

A brief statement from Villa Somalia stated that the visit of Ethiopian PM to Somalia is to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries and open a new page when it comes to the ties between Addis Ababa and Mogadishu.

During his stay in Mogadishu, the Ethiopian PM who started an official working visit to Mogadishu, is expected to hold talks with Somali president at Villa Somalia.

Ethiopia and Somalia recently resolved their row over Ethiopia’s controversial agreement with Somaliland which it leased 20 km of its coast to Ethiopia in order to set up a military base and in return Ethiopia agreed to grant recognition to Somaliland.

That row was now resolved after the two sides met and held talks in Ankara.

Ethiopia serving in the new African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) was part of the disagreement between the two sides but was finally resolved through negotiations.
