Somalia’s defense minister, Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi on Tuesday held a fruitful meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the security cooperation between Somalia and the U.S. They also discussed ways to consolidate the longstanding cooperation between the two countries.
Defense Minister expressed deep thanks and appreciations to the U.S gov’t for the support it provides when it comes to fight against Al-Shabab and ISIS terrorist groups. He wrote on his twitter that he was pleased to meet with Ambassador Riley.
He said that the U.S. is a friend of Somalia that supports Somalia on security matters. He said that he hopes to enhance the defense ties while cooperating the fight against terrorist groups of Al-Shabab and ISIS.
He promised from day that he assumed the office that he will strengthen the working cooperation between Somalia and its friends in the area of security.
The U.S. Gov’t is a key ally of Somalia and it gives support in the areas of providing training to the Somali National Army (SNA) and carrying out airstrikes against ISIS and Al-Shabab terrorist groups.
