SL National Electoral Commission (NEC), on Monday, held a meeting with European Union envoy to Somalia, Nicolas Berlanga Martinez along with the Swedish envoy to Somalia, Staffan Tillander who represented the int’l partners.
The objective behind the gathering was to pave the way for the implementation of the recent EU brokered agreement signed by the opposition groups with the SL gov’t.
The essence of the accord was to hold parliament and local council polls within 2020.
The EU representative plus the Swedish ambassador both have reiterated their confidence that all the election stakeholders who signed the agreement are ready now to put the agreement into operation.
The National Electoral Commission hailed the accord and pledged to facilitate the implementation of the terms of the accord and to prepare parliament and local council polls smoothly within 2020.
