SL affirmed its readiness to host Afghan refugees in its homeland. This will be the second east African country to host Afghan refugees after Uganda reached a deal with the US officials.
Despite lack of international recognition, SL is also home to thousands of refugees from Ethiopia and war torn countries of Syria and Yemen.
Thousands of refugees have started fleeing from Afghanistan following Taliban’s takeover earlier this month.
A spokesman from Somaliland’s Foreign Ministry told AFP on Friday that Hargeisa is in talks with US officials about temporary hosting Afghan refugees.
The officials have revealed that the deal was at a preliminary state.
Technicalities still to be worked out and no date was fixed for the arrival of the refugees,
