The people of Somaliland yesterday joined the global Islamic fraternity in celebrating the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

The occasion celebrated annually on the twelfth day of the third month of every lunar calendar (12th Rabi’ul Awal) brings together practicing Muslims in reminding worshipers of the traditional teachings of the Prophet.

They take the opportunity to giving alms, reminding themselves of the essence of righteousness, piouty, integrity, peaceful coexistence, mercifulness and all that appertains to goodness as against evil vices.

In leading the Somaliland Muslims fraternity in the celebrations, the VP H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismael Seyli’i noted that it was imperative upon the believers to glorify the Prophet Mohammed on the occasion.

“It is on obligation incumbent upon us to glorify the Prophet (PBUH) who is the Seal of all Messengers on the occasion of his birthday”, said the VP.

He decried the difference in sectarianism in the unity of the prophet.

While noting that the populace celebrated occasional man-made monthly or annual functions, he wondered why the priority of the prophet’s day is sidelined.

He note, “I wonder why the eminent clergies in the community who preach constantly are absent from celebrating such occasion”.

The day was commemorated all over the world in style.

Most notable were the tens of thousands who thronged stadia as in Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya etc to celebrate the day.

Wise words were sounded by leaders like the Premier of our neighboring country, PM Abiy Ahmed, as to urging the Muslims to emulate the Prophet’s tradition and teaching.
