The Governor of the Togdheer Region, Maxamuud Xasan Saleebaan Doob, stated that the relatives of a suspect—wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in the region four months ago—have handed him over to the Security Committee, following the suspect’s voluntary surrender.
The Governor commended the traditional elders and the suspect’s family, praising the role they played in bringing the search for the suspect to an end and ensuring he was placed into the custody of security authorities.
Addressing the matter, he said:
“We have accepted the suspect from you; he surrendered voluntarily, as the elders have stated. From the very day I took office, I have had confidence in your efforts to locate him, and I knew that you were being truthful and speaking the facts.”
Governor Pledges to Work Toward Peace
Governor Doob also praised the calm manner in which the elders and both parties engaged in dialogue, highlighting the importance of resolving conflicts through discussion and mutual understanding.
He pledged that the regional administration would work to bring the two sides closer together and to safeguard peace and social cohesion. This incident follows a killing that reportedly took place four months ago in the Togdheer region; the suspect has now been referred to the Security Committee after turning himself in, according to the regional governor.
