Puntland authority on Sunday confirmed that three un armed men have surrendered to the security forces. The three men hail from Oromo ethnicity in Ethiopia but Puntland authority has not released their names. They defected from ISIS and went to nomads living in the Al-Miskaad Mountain range. They told them that they absconded from Deash fighters and are ready to surrender to Puntland Security Forces. The Spokesman of operations in Al-Miskaad Mountain Range, General Mohamud Mohamed Ahmed alias Faadhigo, has told the media that it seems that the men were forced to join ISIS terrorist group and fought for them. He told that they had the opportunity to escape from ISIS fighters.
He disclosed that the three Ethiopian nationals were taken to Buru which is under the administration of Bosaso. He added that they will be transferre to Bosaso and later handed them over to Crime Investigation agencies in order to interrogate them. General Faadhigo has revealed that the security agencies have the information in advance that most of ISIS fighters were forcibly recruited. He further pointed out that other ISIS fighters were killed once they tried to flee from them. General Faadhigo said: ” The white men where ever they hail from, they are international. They cannot surrender easily. It is easy to kill them. That is the difference between them and the Ethiopians.”
On the other hand, the Spokesman has told Puntland Security forces have seized Deash bases in Al-Miskaad mountain after airstrikes targeted Deash fighters were conducted by U.S. Africa Command. The spokesman went on to say that the security agencies have the information that Daesh fighters stationed in Togga Miiraale are on the run. He further added that the security forces are closely monitoring their movements but he has not cited which area they are based at the moment. Finally, he said that it will take up to a week to flush out Daesh remnants from the region although he did not exactly know the number of Daesh fighters who are hiding in Al-Miskaad Mountain Range.
