The case against reporter, Abdimalik Coldoon has began at the Marodi Jeh Regional Court in Hargeisa.

Reporter Coldoon who has been in remand for nearly two months is accused of writing articles that defame the Republic of Somaliland and it’s institutions, including the office of the President.

This is not the first time that reporter Abdimalik Coldoon has been in trouble with the Somaliland authorities and had been charged with libel and slander against the Republic.

The reporter is also accused of defaming Abaarso School and two of it’s staff members.

Lawyers for the reporter, Abdimalik Coldoon, have dismissed the charges as frivolous and as a personal vendetta against their client who is well known for his perceived “Somaliweyn” sympathies. The hearing is expected to last a few days.
