Somaliland has confirmed 13 new cases of Covid-19, with the total number of Coronavirus cases in Somaliland totaling 19.

The announcement was made by Somaliland’s minister for Information Saleban Yussuf while speaking to the state-owned television.

Minister Yussuf said the Virus is widely spreading across the continent and Somaliland is already feeling the effects of the Virus.

This is the highest number of cases recorded in a single day in the country since the pandemic come to Somaliland.

The ministers’s announcement however contradicts an earlier announcement by Somaliland’s health ministry earlier today which said their were no new cases in the country.

The director of the ministry of health, while speaking to the Media in the capital Hargeisa on Thursday said the country did not record new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the information minister Saleebaan Yusuf Ali Koore also expressed dismay that the public is not heeding the health advice of the committee and the ministry of health.

He said the problem also exists within the diaspora community where Coronavirus is killing Somalis in disproportionate numbers.

Somaliland’s government has taken a raft of measures to curb the spread of the virus including; closing its border with Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia, today shutting down all its ports with the exception of Berbera port, closing down all learning institutions and promised to take other drastic measures like closing down mosques if necessary.
