Reports from Moqokori district in Hiiraan region say that fierce fighting is underway in El-Hareeri settlement. The heavy fighting ensued between the local defense forces known as Ma’awisley from Hawadle clan and Al-Shabab fighters.
The fighting broke out after Ma’awisley forces launched an attack against Al-Shabab fighters who were regrouping in the outskirts of El-Hareeri settlement.
Reports indicate that the fighting intensified while the two sides used all kinds of heavy weapons. Reports further reveal that loud explosion of heavy weapons could be heard from areas that are far away from El-Hareeri settlement.
Initial reports disclose that there are casualties from both sides including deaths and injuries, but details are sketchy pertaining to the casualties as the fire has not so far ceased.
The fighting coincides while the Somali populace are celebrating the Eid-Al-Adha festival across the provinces in Somalia. Local residents in El-Hareeri settlement are fighting in order to free from the threat posed by the militant group of Al-shabab.
Finally, Hiiraan province has become the only region where the war against Al-shabab is underway. Ma’awisley forces are battling Al-shabab insurgents with the support of the Somali National Army (SNA) in a bid to eradicate the militant group from Hiiraan region.
