A report released by the ministry of health confirmed yesterday that the number of reported diabetes cases in Somaliland is on the increase.

A latest survey issued by the non-communicable diseases departmental director at the health ministry disclosed that 19 % of the country’s population are living with diabetes.

The Director of Health Dr Shukri Ahmed Sandon said that the rise of diabetes cases in Somaliland are attributed to the change of lifestyle in Somaliland populace.

The change of being not making regular exercises and being sedentary is likely blamed for the rise when it comes to the number of people living with the disease.

Dr. Shukri said that the public have stopped eating fruit and vegetable as well as staple foods which is now part of the increment of patients suffering from diabetes.
