A court in the Kahawa area of Kenya has sentenced a Somali man, Abdikariim Hasanow Hassan (also known as Ali), to ten years in prison after he was found guilty of crimes related to the militant group Al-Shabab. The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (ODPP) stated that Abdikariim was directly involved in the group and acted as a member, supporter, and recruiter. The court, which found him guilty, stated that Abdikariim had close ties to Al-Shabab and organized meetings to support the group, recruited new members, facilitated their travel to Migori and Somalia, and provided financial support and guidance. Four witnesses testified that the suspect played a significant role in the group’s operations. The presiding judge, Boas Ombewa, stated that the evidence clearly showed that the suspect was directly involved in recruiting new members, spreading extremist ideologies, and financing the group’s operations. The judge ordered that the suspect serve concurrent sentences. The court clarified that the substantial evidence presented proved Abdikariim’s crucial role in organizing and supporting Al-Shabab’s operations, leading to his guilty verdict.
