The Attorney General of Lasanod regional authority, Abdilahi Hersi Dheere on Monday has accused Al-Shabab militants of being responsible when it comes to the assassination of Mr. Faarah Aidid Jama who was an Ethiopian Consular Officer in Garowe.
The body of the late Faarah was found in the outskirts of Lasanod while he stayed there for the past couple of days.
He met with Somalia’s Police Commissioner General Asad Diano.
Attorney General Abdilahi Hersi Dheere told that Al-shabab militants were behind the heels of Faarah Aidid while he was a member of Ethiopian agents.
He further said that the late Faarah Aidid escaped Al-shabab attack and sustained injuries in the aftermath of the attack.
At the same time the Attorney General further stated that Mr. Faarah Aidid was a member of the militant group of Al-Shabab but later defected and that was the reason he was personally targeted.
He repudiated news that was widely circulated in social media which claimed that Faarah was killed in Garowe and his body was taken to Lasanod.
He said: “The information we have indicates that the Ethiopian Consular Officer was killed in Lasanod and his body was taken to the outskirts of the regional capital. Two of his mobile phones were taken from him.”
He said: “I believe that Mr. Faarah was closely followed. Once he came in Lasanod, he was not cautious and vigilant. He was a target. Everyone knows that Al-Shabab militants infiltrated in Lasanod.”
The assassination of Mr. Faarah is the first killing that Al-Shabab is accused of being behind.
