Somaliland: 3 More Cases of Coronavirus Confirmed

The Somaliland ministry of health on Wednesday reported the country’s second death from the deadly coronavirus pandemic. The deceased was an old man who has no travel history. The latest fatality comes a day after Somaliland health ministry confirmed its first death from the respiratory disease which has claimed the lives of more than 257, 000 people worldwide. Somaliland also reported 3 additional cases of the virus officially known as Covid-19, bringing the total number of infections to the country to 12. Somaliland has also confirmed that it now has the capacity to conduct coronavirus tests in the country. The testing equipment which was recently donated to Somaliland remained idle for the better part of April. The country has been sending its tests to a laboratory in Nairobi manned by the World Health Orgnization (WHO). All the new cases is a local transmission according to the ministry of health development. There are fears of an increase of community transmission because people are not abiding the guidelines proposed by WHO and Somaliland government. The government of Somaliland has put in place strict measures aimed at keeping the disease at bay.
