Somali President Confers with UAE State Minister for Foreign Affairs

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday met and held high level discussions with a delegation from the UAE headed by state minister for foreign affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Binu Nahyan Al- Nahyan.

Hassan held a phone talks with UAE counterpart. During the phone conversation, the two sides reiterated to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

State minister for foreign affairs of the UAE conveyed a message from UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed Binu Sayid, which was addressed to his Somali counterpart.

The objective behind the message was to strengthen the strategic cooperation between the two brotherly nations.

Somali President expressed deep thanks and appreciation to the UAE gov’t for the assistance it provides to the Somali gov’t and commended the role the UAE plays when it comes to the development of Somalia.

On his part, UAE Minister Sheikh Shakhboot Binu Nahyan Al-Nahyan, has expressed thanks to the Somali gov’t for the cordial reception accorded to his delegation and their commitment to consolidate the historic ties between the UAE and Somalia.

He pointed out that the cooperation between UAE and Somalia is based on the stability of the Horn of Africa.

Somali gov’t is dependent on the UAE in terms of the fight against extremist groups of Al-Shabab and Daesh. The UAE provides salaries to the Somali men and women in uniform.
