National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in close coordination with Int’l partners, conducted a targeted airstrike in the El-Ba’ad Area of Middle Shabelle region.
Several Alshabab militants including a key commander by the name of Yusuf Dheg-naas were killed in the wake of the airstrike.
NISA confirmed the strike resulted the death of Dheg-naas, who was in charge of overseeing Alshabab’s operations in El-Ba’ad area.
It is reported the destruction of several combat vehicles used by the militant group during operations.
NISA said that Dheg-naas was notorious in extorting money from the residents and terrorizing the community.
The operations are part of an on going efforts to weaken the capability of Alshabab fighters who pose a real threat the national security of Somalia and the neighboring countries.
