Reports from Middle Shabelle region confirm that assaults and airstrikes were conducted targeting Alshabab fighters hideouts in El-Baraf district.
The Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group of Al shabab recently took over the district.
Local residents told the media that fierce fighting broke out between Somali gov’t troops backed by allied forces and Alshabab fighters.
Besides the ground assault operations, airstrikes were conducted targeting Alshabab fighters stationed in Ali Fooldheere district.
Details of the casualties still remain sketchy.
The operation was part of an ongoing efforts which was aimed at weakening the capabilities of the Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group of Alshabab that are stationed in El-Baraf.
