Puntland authority on Wednesday handed over to Somaliland 15 prisoners who were captured during the fighting in Sool province in 2023.
Puntland justice minister, Mohamed Abdi Wahaab who spoke to the media has told that Puntland has accepted that Somaliland handed over 11 prisoners who were captured during the fighting that occurred in Sool province.
He said: “Today we handed over 15 prisoners who were part of the prisoners who were captured in the fighting that took place in Sool province in 2023.
Somaliland also released 11 prisoners and handed over to Puntland 11 prisoners.”
The minister has pointed out that this is an important opportunity in order to strengthen peace, trade, brotherhood and the integration of the two communities.
He said: “This is a step taken in the right direction pertaining to the peace cooperation. It is something delightful that Somali men who were in captivity for two years regained their freedom and reunite with their families and relatives.”
