Aboorey settlement in Hiiraan region has become a battlefield after local Ma’awisley forces launched an assault against members of Al-Shabab fighters who were stationed in the settlement.
The raid is part of the ongoing efforts which are aimed to flush out Al-shabab fighters from the settlement.
Sources say that there were casualties including deaths and injuries although the exact number of casualties are not known from both sides.
The fighting that ensued between local Ma’awisley forces and Al-shabab fighters lasted for several hours while the two sides exchanged heavy gunfire.
The local Ma’awisley forces backed by the Somali National Army (SNA), said that they will continue the operations against Al-shabab militants in order to ensure the security and to liberate Al-Shabab militants from areas under their control.

Aboorey is a settlement where recurrent fighting was underway. Al-Shabab militants are determined to keep the settlement under their control.
However, the efforts of the Somali populace and the army increased their pressure put on the militant group of Al-Shabab.
Reports from Hiiraan region say that the Somali army and local Ma’awisley forces are engaged in an effort to retake the settlement which the militant group of Al-Shabab seized recently in a fighting.
Tension is running high and there is a growing fear that fighting will erupt between Somali troops and Al-Shabab fighters.
The Somali troops and Ma’awisley forces are currently carrying out operations against the militant group of Al-Shabab in areas under their control in Hiiraan and Shabelle regions.
The steps are intended to dismantle Al-Shabab positions and to prevent attacks that the militant group carry out.
