The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Isse Awad, and the Ambassador of the European Union to Somalia, H.E. Nicolas Berlanga Martinez, have signed a ‘Status of Mission Agreement’ (SOMA), for the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia). The agreement, defines the legal position of the mission and its personnel deployed in the territory of Somalia and covers the rights and responsibilities of the mission and its staff.

“I welcome this agreement which ensures the legal ground for EUCAP’s work, and is a clear indication of the mutual commitment by the Somali Government and the EU, to cooperation for a more safe and secure Somalia,” said EUCAP’s Head of Mission, Chris Reynolds.

On 13 January, Ambassador Berlanga Martinez handed over the signed SOMA to Civilian Operations Commander for EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Missions, Mr. Vincenzo Coppola, who visited EUCAP Somalia in Mogadishu.
