Somali militant group Alshabab on Thursday captured El Baraf district in Lower Shabelle region in South of the country.
Details are sketchy but reports from El Baraf confirm that it is now under the control of Alshabab militants.
It is learned that the Somali National Army (SNA), vacated the town.
Heavily armed Alshabab militants moved in El Baraf town after the Somali troops withdrawal.
Alshabab’s capture of the town comes at a time when the Somali troops backed by local clan fighters foiled attacks launched by Alshabab militants targeting El Ali Ahmed and Ali Fooldheere districts in Lower Shabelle region.
The Somali Gov’t said in an official statement that its troops repulsed the attacks.
The Gov’t further added that its troops killed 130 Alshabab fighters during the fighting.
The town was among districts in Lower Shabelle region where Somali troops liberated from Alshabab militant groups.
