Somaliland President held a farewell Meeting with outgoing Swedish Envoy

Somaliland President, H.E Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro on Monday held a farewell meeting with outgoing Swedish envoy to Somalia/ Somaliland, Mr. Joachim Waem. The meeting which took place in the Presidential Palace demonstrated the respect and homage which represent the relation and understanding between the Republic of Somaliland and Sweden. President Irro expressed thanks to the outgoing Swedish envoy in his visit to Somaliland.

He also thanked the Swedish gov’t for the aid it provides to Somaliland which plays a huge role in fulfilling the needs of the community in Somaliland. He told him that Somaliland is a rich country that has abundant natural resources. He underscored that Somaliland is ready to welcome with Swedish gov’t engagement and cooperation in the areas of development, investment, and to fully cooperate on security, and the stability of Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.

He told him the achievements that his government made during the short stint that he was in power including the nationalization of clan militias, the pacification of Eastern region, and the huge steps taken in regard to the foreign policy.

On his side, the Swedish ambassador has expressed deep thanks and appreciations to Somaliland President for the cordial reception he was accorded and the engagement that he had with Somaliland during his tenure.

He confirmed that Sweden is desirous when it comes to peace, progress and the cooperation between the two sides. He also lauded the gov’t of Somaliland and its populace for the peace, stability and the democratic process that Somaliland achieved.

He told that Somaliland can be a good example that needs to be emulated in the Horn of Africa.  He promised that he will submit a comprehensive report to the Swedish gov’t that focuses on the reality on the ground in Somaliland. He told President Irro that Sweden is a close ally to Somaliland and can assist in a number of areas including peace.
