HARGEISA—The Agriculture development ministry yesterday issued a new directive prohibiting all seed imports without permits and which has not been tested into the local labs in Somaliland.
This was announced by the minister in charge of agricultural development during an inspection tour in public farming initiative in Tog Wajale.
The directive apprises agricultural stakeholders both local and international that they must first get a permit from the agricultural ministry allowing them to import seeds into the country.
The ministry seeks to test seeds into local laboratories and the minister has further asserted that imported seeds are mean to undermine the food production in local farming in Somaliland.
Somaliland is said to lie in arid land and during the rainy season that farming community lost most of running water without benefiting it.
