Somaliland Marks 61st Anniversary of Independence from UK

The republic of Somaliland celebrates its 61st anniversary of the independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the presidential palace.

The 61st anniversary of the independence of Somaliland from the United Kingdom was attended by the president of the republic of Somaliland H.E Musa Bihi Abdi, the VP, H.E Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail Sayli’i, the Speaker of the house of elders and Speaker of the house of national assembly, Sulieman Mahmud Adam and Mr. Bashe Mahmed Farah, the Supreme court judge, Adam Haji Ali Ahmed, leaders of the three national political parties, Kulmiye, Wadani, & UCID, ambassadors from UAE, Ethiopia, Taiwan, and Djibouti to Somaliland, international delegates from Guinea Bissau, Kenya, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopian diplomat and ambassadors, cabinet members, parliamentarians =, gov’t directors, and many other dignitaries.

The Speaker of the House of national assembly, Honorable Bashe Mahmed Farah, addressed the gathering by underscoring the significance of SL re-independence after the failure of the union with Somalia.

Kenyan lawmaker, Mohmed Moalim Mohmud, who was accompanied by a large delegation from his country said they were delighted to attend the 61st anniversary of its independence other than that the Kenyan gov’t has always stood by the people of Somaliland.

The Speaker of the House of elders of the republic of SL Ms. Sulieman Mohmud Adam, on his party congratulated on the people of Somaliland on their National Independence Day and urged them to preserve their sovereignty and be patient in the face of any challenges.

The President of the republic of Somaliland H.E Musa Bihi Abdi, stressed the importance of the nation on the occasion of SL’s Independence Day on June 26th, 1960.

President Bihi emphasized on the basic law and some regulations that Africa inherited from European colonialism, saying, SL has progressed to peace and has not settled in the south its rule, its regions, its elections, and its administrations are based on its 26th June, 1960, the legacy of colonial rule in Africa us based on Somaliland places SL side by side with Somalia.

Bihi said SL progressed in terms of democracy elections, saying, during our time, we have won in the first seven elections, three presidents have changed peacefully with one person one vote, two chambers of the parliament have changed, two local councils have changed into peaceful elections and thank God we have been holding those seven elections for the past 30 years.

The Horn of Africa nation has hoisted the flag of the republic of Somaliland which the Head of State acknowledged.
