The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has leveled accusations against certain political opposition factions, alleging that they are mobilizing armed militias and undertaking actions that threaten the security and stability of the capital, Mogadishu.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Fiqi indicated that some opposition groups are seeking pretexts to mobilize armed factions. He also referenced incidents and attacks that reportedly occurred in September 2025, as well as in May and June of this year.
The Minister maintained that government forces did not initiate the attacks, instead accusing the aforementioned factions of having previously carried out such assaults.
He emphasized that the law applies equally to all and that no one would be permitted to take armed actions that undermine the capital’s security. Fiqi further stated that the government would not tolerate armed activities that jeopardize the safety of Mogadishu. The minister’s remarks come amidst political disputes between the federal government and certain opposition factions, with concerns mounting over the potential impact of these political tensions on the security situation in the capital.
