Somalia officially joins Africa Transport Policy Program

Somalia has officially joined the Sub Saharan Transport Policy Program (SSATP), after a conference was held in Benin’s capital Cotonou, and was announced the formal accession of Somalia into the program which is crucial for the African Continent.

The Director-General of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of Somalia’s Federal Gov’t, Mr. Bashir Ma’alin Ali, has said that this step Somalia has taken is aimed to change the nation in which Somalia is spearheading.

Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP), is an int’l partnership to facilitate policy development and related capacity building in the transport sector.

There are 38 countries, 8 community organizations, state-run agencies, int’l development organizations are part of the the program.

Since its inception, (SSTAP) has become an internationally recognized forum and is respected to be the center for improving policies in transport in Africa.

Somalia is expected to benefit from the accession into the (SSTAP), as the country is recovering from decades of civil wars which destroyed its infrastructure including roads which connect Somalia to the African Continent.
