The national registration of voters will commence on Wednesday the 28th of December 2022, slightly over a fortnight away.
The kick-off of the exercise was declared by the Head of State H.E. Musa Bihi Abdi on Sunday as per a press release from the Presidency.
Through a Decree no. 18/122022, the President specifies his declaration of the date of the commencing of the exercise of registering voters as per Article 90 of the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland with emphasis on Article 44 of the General Law on Elections and Registration of Voters, Law No. 91/2020.
He notes that he acted in line with the ‘Proposal Letter of the National Electoral Commission reference number KDQ/XK-6/019/2022, dated 07/12/2022’, concerning the announcement of the registration of voters.
In the decree, which is signed by the President, he declares, “In proposing the time to conduct the Registration of Electoral Voters by the National Electoral Commission, I have decided that the Registration of Voters for Elections exercise begins in the Republic of Somaliland on Wednesday the 28th of December 2022”.
